Tom Slowey and the Kingdom Homes minibus.
The Kingdom Homes mini bus, driven by Tom Slowey, is used by all of the care homes in turn to take residents out on day trips throughout the year. Here is an excerpt from Tom's diary of a typical week's outings.
Monday 24th May - Craigie House
Todays outing was a visit to Birnie Loch next door to Fife Animal Park. Birnie is a popular destination for groups from all of the Kingdom Homes care homes. Although many different types of birds were seen, the cygnet swans remained elusive but their parents were spotted on the island.
Tuesday 25th May - Methven House
The first outing of the day was a run along the coast passing Kinghorn beach and Burntisland Links where we saw some of the fairground arriving for the summer season which sparked a conversation of past visits to the Burntisland Games Day. We then turned inland to enjoy the countryside before returning for lunch at Methven House. After lunch another group visited Lochore Meadows Country Park where we stopped awhile and refreshments were served.
Wednesday 26th May - Alexander House
On our first trip today we visited Leven beach where one resident decided to take the sea air on a bench for a short spell before joining the others for lunch in the comfort of the bus as, although sunny, it was quite cool when the sun was hidden now and again as clouds passed by. We had wonderful sea views and also watched some golfers on the links course. For our second trip a small party went shopping and enjoyed an afternoon coffee break where the conversation ranged from foreign travel to royal carriages!!
Thursday 27th May - Camilla House
A trip to Anstruther for the famous fish and chips - enjoyed by all. We even managed to catch the sunshine and avoid the showers to the west of us.
Friday 28th May - Barrogil House
A visit to Dobbies garden centre at Halbeath for morning coffee. The cherry cake and peppermint slices were a hit with all!! After a short run everyone returned to Barrogil for lunch. Other events planned for the day included a residents meeting in the afternoon and an evening concert.
